Wine Story Welcomes “Bad Boy” of Winemaking for Masterclass

Philippine Tatler | Mar 14, 2015

Learn the art of Valandraud wines with Bordeaux winemaker Jean-Luc Thunevin on March 16.

Dubbed by influential wine critic Robert Parker as a “bad boy” in the winemaking field, Jean-Luc Thunevin of Chateau Valandraud and Virginie de Valandraud fame will be leading a masterclass on an experiential guide through his different wines and unique winemaking methods.

The session on March 16, 7 p.m. at Wine Story Serendra will also provide attendees a chance to enjoy Thunevin’s flagship wines.

Thunevin describes himself as a “modern winemaker” for going against the usual tropes in his winemaking decisions. He has since favored small batches of extracted wine, created from low yields and aged in new oak barrels. The Bordeaux area at the time was not familiar with such style, but critics soon picked up on his unconventional ways and gave Thunevin and his wines high praises. This eventually led to Chateau Valandraud being promoted to the rank of 1st Grand Cru Classe.
